Once we took the time to cream, to seek the ideal place to expand its towel (not too far from water, not too close to the beach volleyball and if possible near the vendor chouchous) and effort to turn every 20 minutes not to sunbathe on one side, there is not much time to practice a sport.

Even afford a vacation once a year, both to optimize the max! From the Pyrenees to the Sierra Nevada, the Spanish ski resorts are one of the first European tourist destinations in winter for skiing or snowboarding. Indeed, Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe and with 36 ski resorts located throughout the territory of the Iberian Peninsula, the winter sports is predominant.

Spain is indeed ideal for skiing and many are the reasons. The snow is good, hours of sunshine are long in winter, the facilities are first class and many specialized instructors are available to those who start. In addition, a wide range of activities is offered to tourists wishing to go to winter sports in Spain. We just have to put on the skis and to explore the Spanish ski resorts.

In the north, the Pyrenees form a natural barrier between France and Spain for about 430 km. The climax, the peak Aneto lies at 3404 meters. The conditions are favorable for the installation of many ski resorts. However, some are more to recommend the brand they have "Q" of Spanish Tourism Quality, quality label granted to establishments which meet the quality standards required.

In the Catalan Pyrenees, remember those of Baqueira Beret and Boí Taüll Resort located in the province of Lleida and La Molina or Vall de Núria in the province of Girona.

Farther west, in the autonomous community of Aragon, you can slide down the slopes of Candanchu, Cerler, Astun, Panticosa and Formigal, all located in the province of Huesca or Javalambre Valdelinares and in the province of Teruel.

Apart from the Pyrenees, which represent the most extensive in Spain, a few stations north of the peninsula, more family because of their tranquility, may be named here. This applies, for example, Valdezcaray in the community of La Rioja (this region is especially known for its wine) or those of the Cantabrian Mountains in the provinces of Cantabria, Asturias, Leon and Ourense.

At the center of the country, the Cordillera Central offers 4 ski resorts in the outskirts of Madrid, Salamanca and Segovia. A good reason for a holiday sports and culture.

Finally, in southern Spain, Sierra Nevada is the southernmost station in Europe. Within walking distance of Granada, the station holds the label "Q" for quality, also has a circuit-country skiing, a snow-park with half pipe and a recreational area for non-skiers . The weekend of dog sledding and night skiing excursions are also organized.

The range of Spanish resorts for winter sports is very broad. Equipped with magnificent infrastructure, with ski slopes, lifts and trails suitable for all skiers, many of these stations are ideal for beginners and experts await your visit.

There is therefore no time to lose, book your stay and enjoy your holiday in Spain!

The reason select Snowboarding Classes

If you know all about the time that I went to snowboarding classes and why I absolutely think that you should go out there and do the same. When you learn something new it provides and excellent sense of well being and can result in many hours of fun and enjoyment that can come as a result of the new skill that you have attained. When I was only 16 I really liked watching winter sports on television and although it may sound stupid, it was actually sledging that drove me to want to learn a winter sport. I always liked sledging and I even went sledging when it wasn’t snowing. You see, where I live it is absolutely impossible to go sledging 11 months of the year, and if we are lucky enough to have as much as a month of snow then I am always sure to take advantage of it and go out their and sledge away! That is why, coupled with my love for watching snowboarding and sledging on television, that I decided that I would go out their and learn how to snowboard.

So you are probably wondering why I made the choice of snowboarding over skiing as my choice for the winter sport that I would try. The main reason for this was because I have a lot of friends that do snowboarding but absolutely none that do skiing done at the local ski slope. Although they do snowboarding the slope caters for both and I suppose the decision really did come down to me. Anyway, in the end I decided to go out their and choose snowboarding and I would be lying if I said my friends were my only influence in my decision to choose the board over the ski’s. You see I do not know if everyone will know what I am talking about but I feel that a snowboard just appears to be so much more responsive than ski’s. Do you know what I mean? At our local ski slope there is only 100M of run that is around 300 feet if you convert it. In that period on ski’s what can you actually do? If it was some kind of complicated slalom then that would be different, but just going down a hill on ski’s to me seems slightly boring compared to on a snowboard. A snowboard appears to be more of a white knuckle ride. That is why I decided to choose snowboarding, but don’t get me wrong I still think that skiing looks fun, and as I now go down to the skiing slope every week or so I have actually started to do skiing some times for a bit of a change. You see, once I learned how to snow board I had some transferable skills, such as an ability to use the lift, how to handle speed, when to slow down etc. That is why I am glad that I learned how to snowboard first. If I had skied first, then I would probably have found it a lot more difficult to pick up snowboarding second. Anyway I went to snowboarding lessons and really enjoyed myself, I am not as good, nor as dedicated as some of my friends but I still really enjoy myself and that is what it is all about.

Learn To Ski On Vacation

by: Marcus Stout

It seems that we are only just beginning to discover the power of green tea. Over the last few years, green tea has been linked with reducing the risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and rheumatoid arthritis. And, as time goes on, it’s likely that we’ll find more and more uses for green tea.

The magic bullet in green tea is its high level of anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants combat free radicals that are created in our bodies as we process food. The free radicals produced damage our cells and our DNA, and eventually lead to disease if we don’t combat them. Anti-oxidants are our most important defense against the damage of free radicals.

One of the most important anti-oxidants is epicatechin gallate (EGCG) As an anti-oxidant, EGCG is 25-100 times more potent than vitamins C and E. EGCG is one of the many catechins found in green tea, as well as in fruits and vegetables. They are anti-oxidants, bioflavonoids and polyphenols. All three of these substances are effective in improving our immune system, and preventing aging and disease.

But, research is showing that, in addition to preventing disease, the powerful anti-oxidants in green tea may have an anti-bacterial effect, as well. This stands to reason, since we know that anti-oxidants boost our immune system.

Researchers at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston found evidence that tea may keep the immune system prepared to fend off attacks from bacteria and other pathogens. The study looked at 11 healthy non-tea drinkers, who began drinking tea, and compared them with 10 healthy people who began drinking coffee.

The researchers found that drinking 20 ounces of tea every day for at least two weeks doubled or tripled the immune system’s output of an infection-fighting substance called interferon gamma. Apparently the body metabolizes the tea into molecules that mimic the surface proteins of the bacteria, jump-starting the immune system so that when real viruses show up, the body’s immune system begins acting more quickly.

Okayama University in Japan found something even more interesting. Patients who were infected with a strain of Staphylococcus aureus (staph infection) that was particularly resistant to anti-biotics responded more favorably to their treatment when it was administered with the EGCG extract from green tea. The EGCG made the infection less able to fight against the anti-biotic.

So, what does this mean to me?

As with many other research findings, there are always more things that we need to examine. And, no doubt, more research will be conducted to more conclusively identify how green tea’s anti-oxidants can help our bodies stay healthy. It does seem likely, however, that the anti-oxidants contained in green tea are highly effective at improving your immune system, which may help prevent you from catching viruses.

But, even more importantly, these anti-oxidants may help treat serious bacteria and infections even after you’ve contracted them. Doctors may be able to use this powerful information to help patients recover more easily and more quickly from serious infections.

But, for sure, we know enough to conclude that we need to have a diet that’s rich in anti-oxidants. Be sure that you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables every day. Then, wash it all down with green tea to help increase your anti-oxidant level even further.

Be sure the tea you choose is green tea, too, rather than traditional black tea. Black tea is healthy, but not as healthy as green tea. All tea comes from the same plant, the Camellia sinensis; sister to the camellia bush that many people grow in the Southeast US.

Black tea is fermented during processing, green tea is not. The fermenting that black tea undergoes changes the natural anti-oxidants into another state that is not as healthy as their original state. For this reason, green tea (and white tea, too) is your best source of anti-oxidants.

How much do I need?

In Asian cultures, where the consumption of green tea is very high and the incidence of many serious diseases is much lower than that of the US, many people drink as much as 8-10 cups of green tea each day. However, most doctors believe that you can gain health benefits from drinking just 8-10 ounces each day.

One thing is for sure, any amount of green tea is increasing your level of anti-oxidants – which is good for your health. They key seems to be drinking it consistently. Adding one cup of green tea to your diet every day for the rest of your life will be more effective than drinking a quart just occasionally.

If you’re not drinking green tea right now, adding it to your diet could be an effective way to improve your immune system over the short and long term. You may be able to more effectively fight off little viruses that come your way right now, and you may be able to prevent serious diseases later in life. Green tea is delicious and it’s good for you; so it makes good health sense to get your dose of green tea each and every day!

How Sweet it is! Ski better by finding ski 'sweet spot'

I am happy with the old comedies. The Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason and Art Carney was one of my favorites next to the 3 Stooges. I remember whenever things went right for Jackie Gleason he would shout, "How Sweet It Is!"

Now whenever I ski or board, and those magic moments come when I blast through bumps or lace my way down steeps or float through powder I think "How Sweet It Is!"

I now realize how true that statement is. No matter if your skiing or snowboarding every great run begins with a great turn and continues with a series of turns.

To have those great turns you need to master the "sweet spot."

The sweet spot in any sport is the point where beautiful things just happen. It is the optimal position where forces meet to accomplish the maximum act in the most efficient manner.

No matter if the sweet spot is on the tennis racket for a rocket return, swing a golf club that makes Wood jealous or a baseball bat hit that launches a missile or a hockey stick slap that blows down the goalie. It is all a function of the athlete's ability to properly position him or herself so that forces strike the sweet spot at the right time.

For skiing and boarding, it is about adjusting your balance over and around the sweet spot.

In this issue, we will explore the relationship of balance to the ski's sweet spot. Practice these drills at home on a carpet with your equipment to become more aware of your "balance points."

Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart and parallel skis. Make sure you are standing fairly tall with slight bend at the ankle, knee and hip joints and spinal column. Try not to have a straight back but, instead, round your lower back slightly while tightening your stomach muscles gently. This is your athletic stance.

Have your arms in front of your body with hands positioned several inches further apart than the width of your body. Look ahead, keep your head up and face forward. About one-sixth of your body weight rests in your head so a nod or a cock of it can throw you off balance. Now the ski's sweet spot is at the narrowest portion of the ski's "waist".

When your boot is in the ski's bindings, the ski's sweet spot is located between your heel and arch. Having a relaxed athletic stance will center you over the ski's sweet spot. Relax your ankles so that you feel even pressure all around the boot cuff of your lower leg. Maintain your weight on the middle of the soles of your feet when on traditional skis and under the balls of your feet for "shaped skis". These points of pressure are known as the balance points. Skis are designed to bend into a circular arc when pressure is applied at this point.

With many new students, I find that they make solid turns on groomed runs but cross their tips on steeper terrain. The typical cause is due to one or both of the following; an incomplete weight transfer with insufficient pressure placed on the new outside ski and / or their balance point is too far back on the heel placing them behind the ski causing them to "drive from the back seat. "

By the way, it is common to be on the ski's body after for the last quarter of the turn. As you lower your stance, you move your body's mass back or a skier may choose on the wider shaped skis to pressure behind the ball of the foot and reduce edge angle to make a wider arc turn.

What you want to do in either of these situation is to move up and forward onto your skis to start the new turn and not just sit back or just move straight up. If you're going to be back, be sure you can get forward again quickly. It is important to begin each turn with weight on the ball of the foot (your balance point).

A good weight transfer and balance point is awareness drill lifting one ski about a foot off the ground and holding it for 5 seconds. Then placing that ski back on the ground and lifting the other ski and holding it for 5 seconds. Repeat. The key is to balance on one ski with the ankle flexed. When lifting the ski, if the ski tip is raised higher than the tail, your weight is too far back. Flex the ankle of the leg you're standing on to place more weight on the middle of the sole of your foot or under the ball of your feet. If the tail is higher, your weight is too far forward. Practice keeping the ski lifted parallel to the ground. Practice this until you can nail your balance point. Knowing your balance point and sweet spot now allows you to play around and adjust your skiing.

By thrusting your hips out in front of your feet shifts your center forward and applies pressure to the front of the skis. In this stance, you feel pressure on the boot tongue and you're ready to make short, quick turns because you can pivot the skid the tips and tails.

Placing your hips directly above your feet centers your balance over the skis in the normal or neutral stance (athletic). You will feel pressure along the entire sole of your foot, but mostly over your arch. Medium-radius turns is performed with optimal control of the entire ski, tip, waist and tail.

Bring your hips to the inside in a carved turn, your center will naturally move back slightly. The skis will track on a wider arc and accelerated through the turn. You will feel pressure between your heel and arch (the sweet spot). You are now feeling the forces of acceleration throwing you back. It is critical to stay in balance by driving your upper body forward to counter the forces pulling you to sit back. Remember, you need to react and begin each new turn on the ball of the foot so up and move forward.

It is hard to experience, as well as develop the balance point adjustments unless you're actually skiing and practicing on a constant skiing terrain environment. The most convenient and least expensive way I found to develop your skills in balance point adjustments is on a revolving ski deck. Make your next snow trip an awesome adventure by first training on a revolving deck. You'll then discover "How Sweet It Can Be" on snow! ) Www.endlesslope.com

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://smart-ski.blogspot.com/2008/12/how-sweet-it-is-ski-better-by-finding.html' title='How Sweet it is! Last year's 3% rise is expected to increase through the 2007/2008 ski season.

Just over 37% of UK skiers choose to ski in France while 19% choose Austria and 13% choose to ski in Italy. France seems to be the favorite ski destination for most Britons. Crystal Holidays already reports a 10% increase in bookings in its resorts.

The 2006/2007 ski season was more challenging than previous years due to poor snowfall at the start of the season. Lower-altitude ski resorts could face the same challenges this year, according to predictions, but early snowfalls in Austria and Andorra have been encouraging.

Inghams, another popular UK ski holiday company, also reports bookings ahead of last year at this time.

Litsa Constantinou, Chief Executive of Inghams, said: "We expect growth in many of the popular destinations and also that the trend for people taking multiple ski holidays will continue."

High-altitude, snow-sure resorts with Neilson Ski are also selling very well this 2007/2008 ski season. Andy Harmer, head of product and planning at Neilson, said: "Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish resorts are proving attractive, as are the Canadian resorts, which enjoyed fantastic snow last winter."

Crystal Holidays is the UK's leading holiday spot for year round travel, especially during ski season. Crystal features a network of 140 resorts in 14 countries worldwide. Gareth Crump, product and marketing director for Crystal Holidays, said: "France benefits from the popularity of the chalet and club hotel product and its high-altitude resorts. Austria lost out (last ski season) because its low-lying resorts suffered from poor snowfall."

Aside from great ski destinations, Crystal Holidays offers great family holiday getaways. Crystal has stylish hotels and chalets in some of the UK's most popular resort locations. Many of these locations offer a wide range of holiday escapes in Europe and North America; some of Crystal's holiday packages include; lakeside locations, mountain villages, beach resorts, walking breaks, city stays, touring and much more. You can truly enjoy your holiday at your own pace with activities like hiking, biking, climbing, rafting and paragliding.

The Principality of Andorra, more commonly known as Andorra, is a highly sought-after ski destination. Nestled in the eastern Pyrenees mountains bordering Spain and France, Andorra usually provides perfect ski conditions throughout the ski season. Crystal Holidays has three resorts in Andorra; Arinsal, Pas de la Casa, and Soldeu.

Andorra's economy relies primarily on the estimated nine-million tourists who visit each year. Due to the tourist population and immigration, there are many languages spoken in Andorra. The historic and official language of the area is Catalan. Many nationalities have immigrated to Andorra, so you'll also hear Spanish, French and Portuguese, as well as English.

Andorra is rich in culture and home to folk dances like the contrapas and marratxa. Andorran folk music shares similarities with all of its neighbouring provinces and countries but is essentially Catalan in character.

Skiing has become a very popular seasonal getaway during the last decade; more and more people each year book ski holidays as weekend getaways and week-long holidays. Where ever you plan your 2007/2008 ski holiday, keep these great destinations in mind.

Ski Doo Review: Your Site for Comparing Ski Doo by Ski Doo Reviews and Ski Doo Ratings

asyraf4ch@gmail.com Situated in the coastal mountain ranges of British Columbia, Whistler boasts of more than 8000 acres of skiable terrains and over 200 trails.

No matter you want to enjoy downhill skiing, Nordic or cross country skiing, glacier skiing, heli-skiing, or snow cat skiing, Whistler's magnificent mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, have an array of slopes and terrains to cater to every level of skiers and snowboarders. Hence, no wonder why Whistler has been rated the number one skiing resort in North America.

With its vertical drops, excellent snow conditions, and huge alpine area, Whistler Nordic skiing is regarded as one of the best kept secrets. In other words, Nordic skiing, or cross country skiing as it is popularly known, is a great way to propel through some of the most spectacular as well as tranquil winter landscapes of Whistler.

An excellent winter trail to enjoy Nordic skiing in Whistler is the Valley Trial, which is a paved trail stretching up to more than 30 km, connecting to all parts of the resort. Al though primarily a pedestrian/mountain biking trail, the Valley Trail becomes a safe trail to enjoy cross country skiing during winter. You needn't have to worry that any errant ball will come your way while skiing.

Additionally, since it is well-linked, a skiing via the Valley Trail takes you through many of the resort's fantastic neighborhoods. The Valley Trail is easily accessible from a number of places including the Whistler Golf Course on the Highway 99 in Whistler Village, Rainbow Park on the Alta Lake Road, and the Meadow Park Sports Centre on the Highway 99.

Located about five minutes from the Whistler village is Lost Lake, a haven for cross country skiing. A quiet, secluded, well-maintained area, Lost Lake offers more than 30 kilometers of scenic woodlands winding through the Chateau Whistler Golf Course and Nickolus North Golf Course.

The centerpiece of Lost Lake is undoubtedly its fantastic alpine lake, a 60-90 minute skiing around which is a great experience. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or an experienced Nordic skier, Lost Lake boasts of trails to cater to every level of skiers. A specialty is that Lost Lake Trails provides you wonderful facilities to even ski during night with its four kilometers long Lost Lake Loop Trail.

Another much favored destination for an enjoyable Nordic skiing is Callaghan Valley, about 15 km south of Whistler. The terrain found here are superb to experience almost all categories of skiing including cross country skiing and telemark skiing. Perhaps for this reason, Callaghan Valley has been chosen as the venue for conducting Nordic events of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Further, many local ski companies operate here to provide you a excellent snow touring experience. For a memorable skiing, Nordic skiers can also take advantage of such destinations in Whistler as the northern end of Green Lake on the Highway 99 and the road that leads the 16-Mile Creek to Cougar Mountain.

Nordic skiing in Whistler has been categorized into classic cross country skiing and skate skiing. Since groomed trails are aplenty in Whistler, classic cross country skiing is a great way to ski through the great landscapes at a pace that enables you to enjoy the spectacular beauty of the place while appreciating the feel of skiing.

In contrast to classic cross country skiing that is perfect for a relaxing kick or glide down, skate skiing is the fastest way to enjoy Nordic skiing. In addition, Whistler also provides a wonderful base for other Nordic skiing classifications such as ski jumping, biathlon, and Nordic combined, which is a combination of both ski jumping and cross country skiing.

In order to make your skiing vacation a great experience, many world-class hotels and resorts provide high-end facilities. Some of them even render packages that are inclusive of skiing tours through some of the majestic trails of Whistler, ski rental equipments, accommodation, dining, and snacks and refreshments.

Additionally, there are a lot number of skiing companies in the scenario to impart you informative classes on different types of skiing. For example, if you are a first timer, then you can make use of one hour program inclusive of classes on propulsion and glide balance. Effective classes are also available to advance your skills in classic and skate skiing.

How to Search Ski Holidays for Beginners

Choosing A Destination

The first thing to remember when you are planning skiing holidays is the importance of the destination. There are many great ski slopes all over Europe, and lots of these places offer anywhere from a weekend to a week or more of skiing fun. Many resorts provide skiing holidays in mountain areas that are some of the most beautiful in the world. However, there are several questions that you need to ask before you choose the best place for your skiing holidays.

The first things you need to focus on while choosing skiing holidays are how long you are going to be there, the number of people who are going, and their ages. These are probably the most important factors in deciding where to take your skiing holidays. The length of your skiing holiday will have a lot to do with the destination that you choose. If you are only going for the weekend or a couple of days, you can find a remote and beautiful place to go to for your skiing holiday. If your trip is short, your focus will be on skiing, and it won't matter if there are not very many amenities or family things to do. The other attractions that might be in the area won't be as important as the family ski resort itself. You want to choose a ski resort that will allow you to do as much skiing as possible in the short time you have for your holiday.

If your skiing holiday is going to be longer than a few days, the location and amenities of the place that you choose for these skiing holidays are both very important. When you are going to take a ski holiday that lasts longer than just a few days, the other things that you can find to do become much more vital to you. For a long trip, you will need other things to do, no matter how much you love skiing. You will need to make sure that you choose skiing holidays at places that have restaurants, shopping districts, entertainment, and other activities. These will allow you to take a break from skiing, and make your skiing holidays more enjoyable overall.

The ages of the people going on your skiing holidays are also very important. If you are going on skiing holidays with your children, you need to choose places that have ski lessons for children, and fun activities for them as well. With your children along, you also want to research the safety of the ski resort even more thoroughly than you otherwise would. Remember again, that with children, you are going to want to pick your skiing holiday locations where there are lots of things for them to do besides skiing.

Getting There

Once you have chosen a place for your skiing holidays, you have to decide on the best way to get there. The travelling that is involved often costs more than the actual skiing. However, there are many deals on flights and packages to various destinations for skiing holidays, if you know where to look. If you can save money on airline flights, you will have more money to spend on your skiing holidays.

The accommodation that you choose is also an important part of planning family skiing holidays. Whether you stay on the actual site of the family resort, or somewhere near the slopes, you want to be able to get there easily each day to ski. Remember, if you are staying at the place where you are skiing, it might be more expensive. However, your ski slope fees will usually be included. If you find an accommodation that is much cheaper than the resort, but where skiing is nearby, you might find this to be less expensive, but you probably will have to pay for the ski slope fees.

There are other things to consider as you plan your skiing holidays. Things like rail services that can get you to your destination, and whether or not you want to do a car hire are all decisions that you have to make before you leave on your trip. You will find that if you take the time to plan your skiing holidays before you go, you will be able to relax and enjoy them much more.

Water Skiing

by: Nancy Jackson

Have you ever tried water skiing? It's like flying, only cooler. As you glide across the surface at top speed, cool water splashes over and around you. It's a fun and exciting sport that people of all ages can take part in. If you're strong enough to hold yourself up, you're strong enough to water ski.

To be really good at water skiing does take a little practice; but even more important, it takes the right equipment.

Four basic types of water skis are available on the market:

* Combination: The most common types of water skis sold today are combination skis. The skis have a wider tip, so they're the best style to learn on and are preferred by beginners and advance skiers alike.

* Slalom skis: Used by skiers who prefer to use just one ski. By skiing on one ski, the athlete is able to make sharp turns and reach faster speeds. Recreational slalom skis have a wider tail and a flatter bottom to make it easier to get up and ride straight, while advanced skis have a more tapered tail with beveled edges and a tunnel bottom. These are more difficult to ski on, but will take the skier on a much faster ride.

* Trick skis: Extreme athletes use trick skis to pull off the most outrageous stunts. Trick skis are for spinning, jumping and busting extreme moves in (or over) the water. These are shorter and wider than other style of water skis, and require much more skill. There are no fins on the bottoms of trick skis, so it's easier to slide and turn, but harder to make controlled moves while water skiing.

* Jump skis look like old-fashioned skis, but are made from a hi-tech composite material to make them stronger. As the name suggests, jump skis are used for jumping off of ramps.

The other essential piece of water skiing equipment is a rope. This is what connects you to the boat. Make sure that you have a proper rope with an appropriate handle. Water ski ropes have a flexible elastic quality, so they're able to change speeds and move with the skier. In normal conditions, polypropylene ropes will stretch two to three percent of their standard length of seventy inches.

The comfort of the rope handle is very important, and every water skier has his or her personal preference. Recreational water ski handles usually have a plastic or rubber grip. The plastic molded handles are strong and durable, and will float when dropped in the water. High-performance handles are generally comprised of an aluminum bar covered with a comfortable rubber grip. The construction is lighter, but more comfortable and durable than a molded plastic handle. Higher performance handles are hollow, so they sink when dropped in the water.

It's suggested that you wear goggles while water skiing, especially if you need to wear your eyeglasses. Protective goggles will stop water and debris going into your eyes, and will prevent your glasses from flying off and sinking if you fall into the water.

Water skiing is great exercise and a super fun way to enjoy a sunny day with friends. Strap on a lifejacket, grab some skis and make the most of your day on the water.

Family Ski Vacation

by: Donald Taylor

Whether your family lifestyle is a little extreme, or more serene, a family ski vacation is a great way to have fun and bond with your kids. Family ski vacations can be as wild or as subdued as you like, and with options available for all budgets, it's easy to plan a winter getaway for your clan.

Once you've all agreed that a family ski vacation is the way to go, you can start planning the details. Skiing isn't as expensive as you might think, and there are many great resorts that cater to families with money-saving packages available. The biggest problem your family will have is choosing a location.

Most ski resorts have websites, so begin your planning process online. Assess the various resort sites and compare the accommodations to decide which resort will be most suited to your family's needs. Don't choose a resort based on one or two attributes, but consider many different points. If someone in your family will need ski instruction, look for resorts that offer skiing lessons by qualified instructors. Don't make the mistake of choosing a resort where one or more of your family members won't be able to join in the fun because they're not good skiers. Many resorts offer on-site instruction but some don't, so take the time to research and choose carefully.

To make the best choice for your ski vacation, compare the available lifts, slopes and trails. The destination you choose should offer something to please every member of your family. If the resort only caters to beginners, more advanced skiers will quickly become bored. If you have a snowboarder in your group, and there are no snowboarding parks or terrain, that snowboarder will not be happy. Some resorts cover all of the winter sports bases, so shop around for a place that will cover all of your family's interests.

Lodging is another very important consideration. Remember, you're going to be on vacation, so you want to feel comfortable day and night. You'll often find a hotel right at the base of the slopes, but it may not necessarily be the best or most affordable place to stay. Search out all available lodging options in your destination area, and choose the one the fits your budget and suits your family. If the accommodations you choose are located away from the slopes, make sure that you arrange to have easy access to transportation each day.

Even if everyone in your family is an avid skier, you'll likely want to explore other activities while on your family ski vacation. Find out if the resorts on your list offer other activities. Sleigh rides, dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing horseback riding and even tobogganing can all offer a fun twist to liven up your week at the slopes. Not all resorts offer additional activities, so be sure to ask before you book. Check into winter activities at the resort, as well events taking place in and around the town you'll be staying.

A family ski vacation is a great way for kids and parents to get active and have fun. Compare resorts, be sure you find the accommodations and amenities you need, and create a family ski vacation you'll all remember for a very long time.
